My view is that it may not be that contradictory. If you look at the typical distribution (bell- Gaussian) curve of IQ's in a population, the extremes (lowest and highest IQ's) appear to be those more likely to commit suicide (according to these two studies).
This makes sense! These people are the "excluded ones", those who don't fit, those who are not in, therefore are out, who either don't understand (lower IQ) or are not understood (higher IQ).

Is this about suicide in North America? Because in Asia, statistics show that most pre-adult suicide is due to being bullied or too much school study.

The article mentions nothing close to what I have personally witnessed myself, living in Japan, visiting Korea numerous times and now living in Hong Kong.
Yes, it mentions higher suicide rates among higher IQ, with those people possessing lower EQ.
Says not one word about being bullied, which is a major problem in Japanese schools nor the high expectations that Asian parents put on their children to succeed in school ( so Kenji, Yoko, Mei Mei and Moming can get high paying jobs and secure mommy and daddys retirement).

Once hosted a house warming party in which rule #1 was that I would match every new comer shot for shot or drink for drink. After the 16th arrival my bladder told me I should rid myself of excess fluids, however, my brain was functioning under less than sane amounts of alcohol and motor function was compromised. I remember hitting the 3rd step and thinking that the steps were moving in my direction a bit faster than normal.......I awoke occassionally, just often enough to keep alive and to notice different body functions kept occurring during the blackouts. Amazingly, urinating oneself is easy to do when in a drunken stupor....More ammazingly is that one can both vomit and shit (literally have it coming out of both ends simultaneously) under massive amounts of liquor. Has anyone else ever dragged themselves into a shower only to discover that you could not remove your jeans? Then, about 15 hours later I was awakened by intense shivering. Seems a hot water heater only holds about 30 minutes worth of hot water.
Yah, that day was the day when most of our visitors wanted the do tequila shots.
