Murder-suicide
It's been all over the news these days, and thinking of it, it's always on the news really. People who kill their spouse and/or children before they kill themselves.
Today there's a story that Taiwanese Yu-Hsiu in Finland gets life for killing her 3 children, she tried to kill herself too but was "saved". She had went through a divorce and her ex-husband got the custody of the children.
And not more than a week ago a Norwegian man killed his six year old son before taking his own life. Now he and his wife had broken off shortly before.
The stories are many, but there seems as though that one major event can trigger a otherwise normal person to such gruesome acts. That someone feels that life is not worth living is one thing, but taking a child, a child of your own non the less, down with you in the fall, now that I just cannot understand.
Any theories out there?

Selfish. No reason or theory. Unacceptable.
It is what it is....

Well, one line of thinking could be that a mother doesn't want to abandon her children so she could be trying to save them from having to grow up without her. Or she doesn't want them to have to go through the pain of living.
Also, if the case is one spouse kills the other then themselves, the one doing all of the killing could be murdering their partner so they can be 'together' forever, or the whole 'if i can't have you no one can" deal works to.
Some actually find the idea romantic, but honestly, people that get to that point aren't well, so god knows what could have triggered it.
Its truly sad either way, i totally agree with Amy, its beyond selfish.

We, as sane people, fall short when we try to use logic and reason to rationalize their atrocious behavior. That kind of behavior falls beyond the limits of normal human reasoning. Now the only person who can provide a sound theory and rationale behind that type of behavior is the person who committed the act in the first plac; and honestly, what is the opinion of a psychotic murderer really worth.

It's a mystery. I've had to read this or see it on TV at least 5 or 6 times a year in Jp land. I have no idea why they do it.
Cultures are of course different. Maybe they see it this way:
The parents Off themselves and the kids are left with surviving relatives.
Maybe they think this will cause grandma and pa to lose face and the kids will be stigmatized, so they decide to take themselves, the kids AND the grandparents?
I have read new reports of whole families driving the car off the Docks, with the kids and grandparents in the back seat. Still a mystery.

Maybe they see the children as extensions of themselves and want to kill "all" of themselves?...
Yea, all I got is some whacked out theory that I tried to think of because what I wanted to say has already been said. Any certified psycho analysts out there wanna chime in?I can haz signicher!

As a parent. . .there is absolutely no fucking way in hell I could ever kill one of my kids no matter how much I hated myself or my spouse. Those people are fucked out of their minds. If I ever thought that anyone I knew was contemplating doing something like that. . .I'd beat their skull in with a sledge hammer and then decide "if" they would have actually gone through with it.

Have to agree.
I have always said that people who try and get inside the minds of these criminals will only end up damaging themselves (and those near to them) in the progress. To get to the point where they are actually able to understand the way these monsters think and feel and the reasoning behind it would be detrimental to a healthy mind.
"Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster. And if you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes into you."
Courtesy of Friedrich Nietzche.
People always want to know about these bastards, especially about the cases that have been irresponsibly glorified by the media - and what must have happened that was so terrible to drive them to such madness. How about thinking that the same things that happen to them has happened and will keep happening to about 80% of the population and the majority of people are just more able to keep a tight handle on their emotions, harness it and do something constructive with it and/ or purge them in other ways which are both healthy and acceptable without taking innocent lives.
People always have a choice. It's called free will.
If you are reasonably able to make this choice, then choose the wrong path willingly, you have a dark soul. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
