Monkey icons explained {not official}
These icons are KAWAI!
(jeez, I can't believe I just said 'cute'. I've been in Asia way to long).
I will attempt to explain a few of them, because clearly these are Japanese OR the Chinese making a play on the Japanese.
Now, If I repeat something you are already aware of, then chill it.
This character says "sky" which in this case means "empty or empty headed".
This one means "heichi" as in the Japanese way of saying the letter "H"
for Horny. Can also mean Sukebe which is a different form of horny.
They always depict it like this with the blood gushing out of the nose.
This one is "Shouri!" or "Victory!" I think this is the character you cannot read: 勝利 Students wear these head bands during Examination week of studies.
Crying a river. Maybe you've seen this one.

Re: Monkey icons explained

Of course sick, but always with snot coming out of the nose.
This is the way of depicting a thief. I've seen this in China as well.
This one is to be embarrassed in front of the opposite sex.

Re: Monkey icons explained

This one is a surprise to me. Mandarin Zhei Zhei or
Cantonese Do Dze meaning "many thinks". This one I think is a crossover.
This one IS Chinese. Mai On meaning "good night".
This one is how as Buddhist monk prays. It is the Heart Sutra and is you beat the wood for rhythm.
Goes like this:
KAN JI ZAI BO SATSU GYO JIN HAN NYA HA RA MI TA JI
SHO KEN GO ∋ ON KAI KU DO ISSAI KU YAKU.
SHA RI SHI SHIKI FU I KU KU FU I SHIKI

Re: Monkey icons explained
Not to put a damper on things, but how useful are these icons going to be if we need to refer back to a "Legend" thread in order to even understand their meaning?
I mean suppose someone uses the icons based on what they think it means, without having read this thread? I'll refer to this thread thinking they mean one thing, when in truth, it may mean something else.
Without the nuances of Jappy, Chink, Slant-eye culture being a mainstay here, these smileys are just confusing. Hell, YOU aren't even sure about one of them and you live over there.
I'm afraid I must give these smileys 2 thumbs down. Except of course for this one:
It reminds me of this clip...

Ooo! ^^^ I'm the first person on this site to 'push against the boundaries' of what is acceptable!
That makes me a rebel.
I am now edgey, and cool.

Re: Monkey icons explained
I can guarantee you that I am 100% correct on my explanations for these icons.
I never stated that I was unsure of any of their meanings.
--------> Can YOU make the characters written on his band?
I know for a fact it is 勝利 Pronounced SHOURI in Japanese meaning VICTORY.
Now, cultures get attracted to other cultures because they think those cultures are 'cool'.
At this very moment, the Japanese think Korea and China is 'cool' so they use some of their words in their language, watch their drama shows (soap operas) and hit those countries restaurants because it's the current big trend.
In Hong Kong and China, Japan is the trendy thing. Music, fashion and food.
I have no idea about Korea.
So, how about STOP being such a monkeys ass.
If admin decides to get rid of these icons, it's your goddamn fault, knucklehead!

I have been led to believe that this monkey means 'Stormcrow'
And I think I shall put him in my signature.
