      Is this wrong?

When you work in the medical field, shouldn't you have a heart? I mean, I know that patients sometimes don't cooperate and are just downright nasty, but a little heart would be nice.

Today, I had to go to the emergency room because my HR dropped to 32, and I almost passed out. My husband and I are sitting in the tiny little area they put us and Im waiting to be checked. After 10 minutes, a woman comes in crying that her husband abused her. She was obviously drunk, but she did loook like she got the shit kicked out of her. Instead of trying to understand her situation, the nurses started LAUGHING at her. Rght in front of her face. This, of course, set her off.. she started cursing at them, calling the black nurses niggers, threatening to have them killed because she's in the mafia..and I understand, that can be amusing to a point, but she was there with a problem. Security came and strapped her down, also treating her like dirt.. laughing at her, mocking her, and just being dicks to her. They finally knocked her out and then everyone was talking about her. How professional is that?

Now, in a situation where the patient is a drunk/drug addict/crazy.. do you think it's all right for a nurse or a doctor to laugh at them, and take their sweet ass time treating them, or do these kinds of people deserve the same respect and treatment as anyone else?

I know it's hard to deal with those types of people, nd that sometimes you have to be a bit rough with them. But laughing at them when you're getting paid to take care of people is just wrong, IMO. I mean, if you're going to find humor in it, don't laugh in front of the person, wait until they can not see or hear you because it discourages them to come back when they need it. It makes people feel unimportant. She was drunk, so what, she still had a medical issue that needed to be taken care of. From what I overheard, she was vomiting blood and got kicked in the stomach. Thats serious.

Well, if it was you, I'd definitely laugh. All night long. And I wouldn't knock you out, I'd put you back in your cage, poke you with sticks and laugh uproariously at you.

Yeah, if someone shows up obviously fucked up, they probably got their ass beat and its their own fault. But for stuff that's not their faults, legitimate illnesses or accidents, though, that deserves some compassion. On the other hand, mental illnesses, fat people, retards and midgets are always funny.

Fuck it... I'd laugh my ass off, and wouldn't care. Oh wait... I've done that, except I wasn't a doctor/nurse in the situation... not that I'd have been any different if I was.

when you see thousands of people go in and out you become desensitised. Else you risk insanity every time one of them doesnt get better. Lets face it, if your in the hospital chances are you got some serious shit wrong in the first place. I think they sould have compasion but i also think of it from there perspective.
Don't sweat the small stuff, and ya know what? It's all small stuff.

If someone goes to hospital it means there is something wrong with them...therefore they aren't perfect...so that makes them flawed...so they deserve to be ridiculed...especially the asians, jews, niggers, mentally retarded, guys, stuckup bitches, and generally everyone else.
Why can't a nurse have a laugh on the job? You should see what we do with you in the mortuary.

That's the same thing my husband said. He said they're used to it and totally desensitized by it. He was another one sitting there laughing his ass off about it. When she came by where I was to get near the nurses, he was laughing right in front of her and I told him if she comes after him Im not helping.

He was even cracking jokes with the nurses and security guards. The first thing he said was, "Im shocked. She hasn't muttered a racial slur yet" and sure enough..out came..nigger this, your moms a nigger cunt, blah blah blah..

He claims he would LOVE to work in an ER because of the entertainment. @@@@

I didnt care that they were laughing.. hey, it IS funny to an extent. But laughing in front of her and NOT treating her, just knocking her out when she is vomiting blood is wrong.

I agree to a certain extent. I would have given her a bowl to vomit in and if she then vomited on the ER floor I would have knocked her out myself.
