      Re: What is 'off topic'

i think when you introducde compltely new topics to a conversation and discuss them. for instance in the abortion thread, if you where start talking about your kids schools. i dont feel that a side coment or a quick story relating to the topic is off topic. Though im sure people disagree
Don't sweat the small stuff, and ya know what? It's all small stuff.

      Re: What is 'off topic'

Most any comment that is not associated with the topic is off.
You may mention a word that is found in the topic and be off topic.

Case in point: You start a topic about starvation in Africa with the African people.
Someone makes a reply and used some derogatory term like 'Niggers'
Say like: Them Niggers deserve to die.
I can see that Niggers and African people are, in some distant far far off remote way related, but it is off topic.

Also, people using it as a chance to get revenge or just throw something in there.
You have a topic about say.......Floods.
Someone replies like: "You should have fucking died in a flood".
That is off topic, though there is word association....Floods and die in a flood.

If you check out the Left side topics, you'll notice real to life examples.

So, in other words, in some bizarre way, someone can be on topic with a word, it being slang, colloquial or downright vulgar and seem on topic but their choose was completely in appropriate for what the thread was intended to be.

Lets take your first example: Starvation in Africa.

If I said them niggers deserve to die, I am referring to africans...and I'm talking about how they justly deserve to starve to death. It's alot of things, including rasict...but it's most definatly on topic.

The problem is, you think "on topic" means that if you create a thread, no one is allowed to bash you for it, or say derogatory things in it. Which is odd in and of itself...I mean you've been fequenting these message boards at least as long as I have...when and where you got this fucking notion to begin with is beyond me.

Despite being told more than once by numerous people that your definition of the word is skewed, you continue to beat at this subject like a bully trying to pass a rule despite popular concensus.

If I said "I like Africans, I sure hope they don't all die" Would that be considered On Topic to you? And if so, why? Because it's a positive statement about the subject as opposed to a negative one?

I honestly can't understand why you're having so much trouble grasping this concept. Are you that incapable of discering a difference between negative comments and off topic ones?

remind yourself that he's a fucking retard, and it'll all make sense.

honestly...he's wound so fucking tightly I would pay 18 pesos to be there when he flips out, backtalks the wrong asian overlord and gets himself castrated.

he's obviously fucked in the head (besides being incredibly fucking annoying), not playing with a full deck and just plain...

      SPOILED ROTTEN.

      Re: What is 'off topic'

If a thread is a conversation. And conversation by nature is free flowing often starting on one subject and transforming into another conversation of a different topic. It may even revert back to the original subject before it is finished. It follows thought which can be very narrow in scope or very broad depending on the person, situation and mood of the people conversing. So by that logic can a subject really ever be completely off topic?

There is no problem with grasping the concept and I am not asking for niceties. Certain terms have their appropriate place and time.

Why the hell do bigoted/racist remarks have to be made in every thread?
What is the fucking point in that?

I already know she (Interstella) has a personal problem with Asians. She knows my wife is Asian and insulted her. You and your buddy Suki WONDER?? why I would be sensitive about that?
What's the fucking point in it? Mmmmmm??
We are talking about the OLYMPICS, not chinks and japs. Fucking hell.

Your comment:"... and I'm talking about how they justly deserve to starve to death."
Justly?? WTF? A person saying this is NOT contributing dick shit to the thread other than being an asshole.

The idea is to contribute to the thread, HOPEFULLY, in a meaningful manner.
They would be bashing "Niggers" who live in America. How would they be able to relate them to Africa and the African situation is beyond me.
Last I heard, North Africa has a lot of Arabs and South Africa has lot of Dutch.
What do Americans know about Africans except that the are all black, therefore Niggers?
      Yeah, right.

After being on forums for so long, I would have thought by now you understand the concept "contributing in a meaningful manner to progress the thread in the intended topic takes priority, though also taking into account what funneeman just presented.

I don't disagree with all you said, but without a doubt, I don't agree with all of it.

Please, do elaborate on my personal problem with Asians. I just love it when people know me so well!

Hate is a very strong word. Like 'slanty'. Or 'eyed'. Or 'fucker'. So I've been told.

Buddah why dont you just say 'if i agree with it, its on topic, if i dont its not on topic' because thats basicly what your saying here.

I think this is a bullshit topic at this point. If GDP plans to make it so that 1 forum is nothing more then people listing off there oppinions about said topic, without being able to interact or explore said topic, i wont be posting in said topic. Not saying your doing this GDP, just stating what im feeling here. Funee is right. If you start talking about abortion and get into a discussion about womans lib, i think thats valid. I think if you start talking about abortion and it turns into a 3 page flame war directly insulting the person without using the curent topic at hand, its off topic. Now i personally think you should be able to insult on topic. No need to pussyfy the site. I do understand a need for serious topics being dicussed, but thats just it, if you can't really interact, the whole person of a forum is gone.

Buddha will be the death of this place. All these new, strange rules will have to be made to his liking (rather than just banning his sorry ass) and then no one will want to post because it requires walking on eggshells.

For example. I'm replying to your post and what came to mind when I read it. However, it's off-topic, and I should be warned, have my post deleted, or banned for such nonsensical off-topic banter.

I need to find me a new forum :(

He is not pussyfieing anything. He's giving forums for serious discussion that people enjoy and forums for buffoonery that people enjoy.
You just contradicted yourself. You have posted serious threads like this one ---------->"Abortion".

I would like to create a serious topic without some knucklehead going in there and fucking it up. If you cannot relate to that, than maybe it is best you look for a new forum.

The Admin has just made things clear. I was hoping as he mentioned that people would use their maturity to stay on topic and use appropriate comments appropriately within context without resorting to DNH tags.
It's ashame we need to use them.

I guess what your trying to say it that you've never made a serious thread before and wanted to get some good discussion from it, safeguarding it in your own way. You're a hypocrite because you have. STFU.
