Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
I am scheduled to have surgery on my right elbow on Thursday. Apparently, I have injured my ulnar nerve by my many years of typing (Let this be a warning to all the computer geeks). This has caused numbing of my fingers, loss of use of my hand, and some moderate pain. From what I understand, the doctor will make a 5"-8" incision on the inside of my elbow, cut my muscle, move my nerve from behind my elbow to the front of it, sew my muscle back up and then stitch me up. I will be in a soft cast for 3wks following the surgery and in a hard cast an additional 3wks after the removal of the soft cast. Once this cast comes off, I will have about 6wks of physical therapy before I can expect decent mobility again.
My first symptoms appeared the first of March and have progressed rapidly. Surgery is the only option, without it I will lose complete use of my hand and arm because of muscle atrophy and clawing. Wish me luck! Knowing my luck with death, I'm just hoping I don't die from the anesthesia. The rest I can handle.

I have no idea what that would mean. Ask me in two years when I've completed my classes.
I'm not sure why it would be "entrapped" when the ulnar nerve doesn't travel through a meatus or foramen which can cause problems for other nerves...unless the surrounding soft tissue has become inflamed somehow (by typing?) and is putting irritable pressure on the nerve.
Splitting? I had no idea a nerve could split and still be functional. No fuckin clue there.
So yea, keep me posted.I can haz signicher!
