Easy. Don't drink, don't smoke, and stay out of direct sunlight.

Well, it worked for Nelson Mandela.

Irony (or sarcasm, whichever way you want to see it) isn't wasted on you, is it?

Nope.

WOW, how rude and confrontational. You are assuming I didn't "get it" when I was just making lite of your thread and actually felt kind of bad that nobody else replied.
I will not make that mistake again, my bad.

I can only assume you missed the sarcasm in my reply to you. You're not very bright, are ya?

And why on earth would you feel 'kind of bad' that nobody else replied? After all, I only started the thread 5 minutes before you posted in it.

Bullshit.

My case in point? George Burns.

Drank a fifth of scotch a day, smoked cuban cigars like they were never going to be made again, chased women all over the world, never ate right, etc.

Lived 100 years.

RIP George Burns 1/20/1896 - 3/9/1996

Personally I hope to live long enough to see the planet engulfed in a blazing Nuclear inferno , or enslaved by hordes of Aliens with anal probes that resemble hedge trimmers.

Either way is fine by me.

Of course not. But we'll see how the battle between scientific advances and ecological degradation turns out.

I'll assume you didn't just misuse a scientific term to try to sound intelligent and are referring to the environment?

I don't think we really have to worry about the environment collapsing and destroying humanity in our lifetime.

Really? Why would anybody decide something like that? We all want longevity, provided we have our wits about us too.

This makes no sense what-so-ever. How do you really believe it would be possible for the collapse of the environment, as we know it, to occur in our lifetime? Let's face it, even if everybody stopped recycling, filled the landfill sites with their rubbish, burnt other waste (causing pollution) and started flushing used condoms down the toilet all willy-nilly, the crisis it would create would NOT affect the present generation. Well, besides us living in shit.

What I meant by my original statements was that I don't think the odds are particularly in my favor to be fully functional mentally and physically by 90. And I don't really want to have to live very long in pain or confusion. There is also the aloneness factor - no friends, distant or non-existant family. Life wouldn't be worthwhile for me.

I'm not a expert by any means, but our quality of life is definitely depreciating with the environment. Our water is full of lead, our air is poisonous, and who knows where the energy crisis will lead us. I'm not saying doomsday is 50 years away, but the environment's downward direction will effect our longevity (meaning I believe medical advancement is not moving forward as quickly as we are killing ourselves).

Ha! Your first parargraph made me giggle, because only today I was discussing age with my sister (she's 10 years younger than me) and I was saying that, being 39 means I'm half way (give-or-take a few) through my life. I expressed a wish to her...

"If I live to be 90, I hope I'm senile. In fact, I think I will fake it from the age of 70 so no-one notices"

She lolled.

Just sharing.
