Read this article today on News24, Fuck me, taking out your own parents, now that's just coldly fucked up. What reason could he possibly have ? did they cut his allowance ? make him work for pocket money ? confiscate his PlayStation/xbox ? I am all for the death penalty, but this is one case i hope they don't give it, generally as a person ages they reflect back on all they have done, the good the bad the ugly, this is one kid that needs to live a long long time.

West Palm Beach - A Florida teenager told a friend that he stood behind his mother for about five minutes in contemplation before finally plunging a hammer into her head, according to police documents released on Wednesday.
Police said Tyler Hadley, aged 17, described the attacks to an unidentified friend at the party he threw in his Port St Lucie home last Saturday night after the killings.
By the friend's account, when Hadley struck his mother with the hammer, she screamed one final question to her son: "Why?"
When his father walked into the room, Hadley told the friend that they locked eyes before he started beating his father with the hammer, too.
The boy took his parents' cellphones away ahead of the attack so they couldn't call for help, according to his friend's account. When it was over, and the parents were dead, Hadley spent three hours cleaning up the blood, before hosting dozens of friends. Hadley told the friend he was surprised how long the cleanup took.
Hadley is charged with murder in the deaths of Blake and Mary-Jo Hadley and is being held without bond. His public defender, Mark Harllee, entered a written not guilty plea on his client's behalf on Wednesday, but said he couldn't comment further.
Murder premeditated
"We're still looking at all the facts and all the paperwork," he said.
The lead prosecutor on the case, Tom Bakkedahl, said of the affidavit: "It's clear to us that there's sufficient facts to charge with premeditated murder."
The latest details of the killings are contained within a juvenile arrest affidavit released on Wednesday by the Port St Lucie Police. It was first obtained by Treasure Coast Newspapers.
The friend of Hadley's, identified only as "MM", told police he received a call from the suspect on Saturday afternoon claiming he planned to kill his parents, a threat he didn't take seriously because it had been made in the past.
Later that day, the friend told police, Hadley made the same threat again.
At the party that night, Hadley asked the friend to step outside to talk, confessing to the killings, according to the report. When the friend didn't believe him, Hadley pointed to his parents' cars parked in the driveway. He still wasn't convinced.
Planned suicide
Hadley then showed his friend a bloody footprint in the garage and, ultimately, the bodies in the bedroom, police said.
Police responded to Hadley's home early on Sunday morning after receiving the tip from his friend. When they arrived, they found a "nervous, frantic and very talkative" Hadley, dressed all in black, with enlarged pupils and "a blank stare".
Inside, the home was in disarray, according to police, littered with beer bottles and the butts of cigars. Dried blood appeared to be on the frame of the locked master bedroom door. When they got inside, a large amount of blood was seen on the floor and bed sheets.
Dining room chairs, a coffee table, clothing, picture frames, mirrors, bedding, towels and miscellaneous papers were strewn about the room, according to the report. An officer removed two chairs, saw a man's blood-covered leg, and called for an ambulance.
Picking up a calendar off the floor, the arm of a second victim was found, according to the affidavit.
Hadley told his friend he planned to commit suicide by taking painkillers before police arrived, according to the report.

I vote death penalty. They clearly didn't deserve it (yes, some people DO). This is evidenced by the mother screaming "why."---if she had deserved it she would have screamed "I understand."

Actually...... no.
Yes, to the death penalty and yes some people DO deserve to be killed.
But your last point.... no. Some people are in denial about being scum of the earth, therefore would have no qualms about screaming - "why?" As they have no real comprehension of the wrong-doing they have commited. NOT, that they don't realise it's wrong like a retarded child would not realise - but actually refuse to believe that they are anything less than saints - don't care enough outside of their own personal needs/desires to realise - and therefore very deeply in denial.
I'm not saying that these people were the scum of the earth - just refuting your statement in the case that the mother realised she actually deserved being beaten to death with a hammer.
Plus "I understand" seems more difficult to formulate in the mouth especially under such an enormous amount of stress. "Why-" is easier, and more commonplace?
I reserve judgement on this case until we find out what caused it. It's either a pyscho with a taste for blood, who wants to go down in history for killing his parents, and be made to look "glamourous", or some sick twisted guy taking revenge for something that happened to him.

The first thing that comes to mind is: what an ungrateful, coddled brat.
However, I don't know the story so shouldn't form much of an opinion.

Anyone who does anything
The story described conditions of a person that had no real understanding of the finality of some situations, consequence of action, and responsibility for one's own part in such activities.
Dumping the parents in THEIR bedroom and then having a party is clear that the dude was trying to postpone the arrival of reality.
I've pretty much reversed my stance on the death penalty MAINLY because it is not a deterrent to crime. (Among other reasons)

I never thought the death penalty as a deterrent for crime. I see it as a punishment for the crime, you take life, you give yours.

Meh. I didn't really read it. I'd read somewhere before that it costs out the wazoo for the death penalty.. googled that, grabbed a link, posted it.
If I thought it would be any cheaper than keeping societal rejects housed in government facilities for the rest of their lives... I'd be very happily all for it.

Fry em. Simple as that. Spare me the worn out arguments about innocent people and the death penalty. Appeals happen. But lets face it, when you show depraved indifference to taking a life, such as this idiot did, strap their ass down and end it. There is no reasonable possibility of rehabilitation.

Right. I'll make you a deal, when you apply to allow this "kid" to live in your home unsupervised 24/7, I'll be impressed.

That's a bit of a silly argument, don't you think?
Clearly the little mental fucker needs to be locked away from society but we HAVE to ask what the hell drove a 17 year old to this point.
Anyway ...
I'm no longer in a position where I can rationally support a State Sponsored death penalty. The Legal system is largely corrupt .. both on the law maker and the law enforcement side and no longer has my confidence. When I can 'trust' my government I may reconsider but until then, no sir.

Obviously the kid has issues. Granted. Wenis's ball park statement about not killing the "kid" was what I was replying to. Over the years I've read hundreds of letters from families who lost their loved ones to "mentally disturbed" individuals and 99% of the time the mental health defense is complete bullshit. I could see it being more believable as abuse or neglect if they found the kid dancing in the parents entrails and singing show tunes, but throwing a party after? No. The defense is going to try using mental health to try and get the little shit off and most likely they will succeed.
I know your history and have shared some of mine, so I know where you are coming from. I no longer trust my government, hence the move to be off grid completely as soon as my girl finishes getting her degree. I've seen first hand the abuses of our legal system, its why I retired and have grown increasingly hateful of the very system I worked within most of my adult life. The point to Wenis is before getting all teary eyed about killing this kid, ask yourself if you would want the little shit as a neighbor in the three or four years when he gets out "cured" by the state?

Actually, I think that kind of punishment would be a wonderous deterrent to crime. If those caught are subject to...lets call it a balancing of the scales.... people might think twice about being assholes.
Steal, you get something similar/equivalent taken from you and given to those you stole from ON TOP OF what you took.
Hit and run? Get run over and be forced to wait a similar period of time before you receive medical attention.
All in public and not behind closed doors.....

Not to stray from topic too much here, but if you're referring to being called anti american or the like, there is a difference in hating everything about a country, which I don't and having seen abuses within the power structure, which I have. I also have actively advocated for change. Have you?

No kidding. Really? I never said I hated everything about my country. You did. That's the problem when people put words in your mouth and exaggerate in order to make a useless point based on nothing. Gee, I wonder why they do that.

Sure have!

The latest? They have reduced the charges of first degree murder to second degree murder and BIG surprise, they are claiming a defense of drugs and mental health issues. The article below talks about the reduced charges and the removal of the death penalty. The defense can be found by googling Tyler Hadley.
(CBS/WPEC) PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The charges against 17-year-old Florida teen Tyler Hadley, accused of bludgeoning his parents to death with a hammer then throwing a party, were reduced in his first court appearance to second-degree murder. Hadley was arraigned Tuesday morning on the lesser murder charges, which means execution is not an option for prosecutors in the case. Hadley was arrested and charged with counts of first-degree murder. Police say he will be charged as an adult. He is being held without bail.
Port St. Lucie police spokesman Tom Nichols said police were dispatched to the scene at 4:20 a.m. Sunday on a tip that the 17-year-old had murdered his parents and the bodies remained inside the house.
Police arrived and were greeted by a "nervous and panicky" Hadley and evidence of a house party, said police Capt. Don Kryak. Hadley reportedly told police that his parents were out of town. After Hadley was transported to police headquarters for questioning and a search warrant obtained, police found behind the locked master bedroom door the bodies of Blake, 54, and Mary-Jo Hadley, 47, Tyler's parents. The bodies were partially buried under household items with a hammer between them.
Police believe the hammer was the murder weapon. The parents' bodies had wounds to the head and torso.
"It was a merciless killing," Kryak said, describing the injuries as "brutal."
Police say the party was held Saturday night beginning about 9 p.m. and 40 to 60 people attended. An invite was posted to Hadley's friends on Facebook about 1 p.m. Saturday. It's not clear how the anonymous tipster came to suspect the bodies of Hadley's parents were in the home.
An autopsy on the parents' bodies is scheduled.
