A US Marine narrowly avoids death in the frontline of the battle against the Taliban.
The soldier ducks just in time as insurgent gunfire blasts away rock from the top of his trench, just inches from his face. His colleagues fear the worst as he falls to the floor during the gunfight with the Taliban this weekend. But miraculously the soldier from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit avoided all injury in the exchange, which took place near Garmser in Helmand Province.

Man, I'll bet that camera guy was pissed off.

For a split second after taking those stills, he probably imagined himself having taken a really vivid and mouth dropping, emotionally charged set of pictures/ minute of film there. He probably got as far as imaginng himself sitting at his own press conference, telling the pooled news teams about his trying experience and how he managed to quell the fear and get the shot.

Probably adding something like "I just knew at the time that what I was doing was important. People had to see this." And then the pats on the back from all the people as he walked out the building. And his cover on the face of TIME with the headline Brave Journalist....but just then..... The soldier gets up and brushes himself off.

Damn the luck.
