I always find it hard on days like today (Veteran's Day) to publicly say thanks to the people who need honored. It has nothing to do with if I agree or disagree with the idea of military service but rather the commercialization of this day. Like so many other things in this world I feel like people don't really understand the meaning of this day and simply pass on a "thanks" that's quite honestly meaningless and done because its "trendy" and what everyone else is doing.
I watch people do this on religious views, gay rights, civil rights, save the ta ta's, the other 2 billion diseases, save the whales/dolphins/dogs/etc and they do it not because they understand the honor/cause but because it looks good to other people.
How do I keep from becoming too cynical on these issues? I know their are people out there who have gone through the thought process and support causes. But I guess I feel the vast majority of the people in this world are too fucking stupid to actually consider things before the blindly do something. Maybe I need to go back to 1950 where things were done by giving your word and you could believe people when they said they were going to do something or believed in something. Its just not like that in 2010. I've had the pleasure of managing 450+ people in a work setting and realized there were maybe 2 or 3 that could think rationally and do what they said they'd do.. . .the rest. . .pretty much varying degrees of dog shit.
Anyway. . .after much thought. Thanks Gary.
