HELP!

Next week, I am hosting some of my boyfriend's friends at our house - and I've just found out that they are raw food vegans.

Does anybody know of any relatively cheap (and tasty) recipes I can rustle up?

I don't want them just to eat boring salads and fruit all the time, because I would feel bad that I hadn't gone to more of an effort for them.

Am I going to have to make a trip to the health food shop for specialist ingredients, or are there relatively easy things that I can make?

Any help would be appreciated!

Your request sent me googling. Not only did I find several recipes but I also noticed how freaking weird this concept is.

Fire was invented for a reason.

My advice, in earnest, would be to dump the bloody shit out of your boyfriend if he's going to pal around with a bunch of fags. Chances are he's still trying to figure out a way to tell you he's gay.

Give them all steaks cooked extra rare and bloody....with some corn so as not to insult them.

Thanks for the website!

It is strange - but I do think that raw food is healthy for you! I mean, why else are we recommended salads and fruit when we want to be healthy or start a diet?

Some of the recipes I have seen so far, sound okay. The only thing is, with the cold weather coming, there won't be much "comfort food" being cooked in my kitchen next week...!

It's just all the weird ingredients like flax seed and "nutritional flakes" -- what are they?... or.. 1 tablespoon nama shoyu...

Yeah, I'm sure I'll find that down my local supermarket...

Spain is such a backward country. There's no way I'd find any specialist ingredients in our supermarkets. I mean, we don't even have sour cream or buttermilk here!

How rude!

I am completely open to new ideas- and if it makes them feel more comfortable and at home, then that's what I'm gonna do!

=( I actually know very little. Sorry! I can whip up allergen-free stuffs... but they usually include meat, veggies, AND fire.

I think I'd go on a killing spree if someone tried to get me to go raw vegan. I'd make it a day. Tops.

Some vegans still eat fish though, right?

Sushi!!! If I was a vegan, I'd totally be down for mass amounts of sushi. Yes yes.

Good luck! and you're so sweet :)

Do they eat dried stuff? Dried seaweed is soooo good. It crumples up into these little crunchy balls of salty stuffs. I think some places sell it? I've always had it homemade so I'm no help there either

Yeah that is all well and good but if they are the type that are total chodes about their lifestyle that they would go into another person's home and expect or demand that their lifestyle be catered to then they are selfish fuck knobs.

I understand that you want to be a great host but still they have a greater responsibility than you in this case because their lifestyle is an uncommon one.

Perhaps a phone call would be best in this case to clear up and avoid any misunderstandings and awkwardness before they arrive ?

Here's a yummy salad dressing I make:

Take a carton of yoghurt and a carton of tofu.
Mix them together with a dash of pepper, salt and Olive oil...

It's that easy!

Most yoghurts have hidden dairy products in them.

Not to mention its literally a living, breeding colony of bacteria. I wonder how far that vegan thing goes?

Most yoghurts have hidden dairy products in them.

Yoghurt, yogurt, youghurt, or yoghourt (see spelling below), is a dairy product produced by bacterial fermentation of milk. ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoghurt (http://www.google.com/url?&q=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoghurt&ei=jH3JSpzbDJCStgPt-6SiBQ&sa=X&oi=define&ct=&cd=1&usg=AFQjCNG8prjQqEe9k3PLj_FI2E6qUwZ9vA)

Not too much hidden about that. Unless you want to buy the imitation brands made from soy or rice.

All yoghurts are not made from milk, although most are.
The hidden ingredient in the so called substitute yoghurt is gelatin.

If 75% or more of a person's total food consumption is raw food, he/she is considered a raw foodist or living foodist.[1][2] Raw foodists typically believe that the greater the percentage of raw food in the diet, the greater the health benefits. Raw foodism or a raw diet is usually equated with raw veganism in which only raw plant foods are eaten,[3] but other raw foodists emphasize raw meat and other raw animal products.[4]

Find out which bland of weirdo these people are, and you might save yourself a lot of hassle.
Because if they are the latter kind, as mentioned in the above quote, then sushi is probably the best way to go.

Then why not you three try it out and get back to me with kudos, because I know you'll like it.

No thanks. It didn't sound the least bit appetizing. Maybe forever from now when I'm no longer preggers.

Futher, I would make this 'problem' at least 50% owned by your BF. If it is to be trial by ordeal than what's more fun than sharing >.< I can't say too much as I spent a number of years as a fairly strict macrobioticist (if that's even a word). Cheers to whoever suggested the sushi platter. Epic win.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions!

I love sushi, but that might be a huge faux pas!

Okay, I got soya milk, I made some gazpacho (cold soup with fresh veggies) and I made a veggie platter with a cucumber and avocado dip.

Mañana is another kind of cold spinach soup and avocado and tomato salad.

This is easy!

Also, I found out it's just the girl half of the couple who is a raw food vegan, and the guy was totally like, she'll be okay with salads and fruit- don't stress.

I just want it to be perfect! << hostess with the mostest complex >> Heh.

ANYWAYSSSSSSSS. they will be here soon, so I better start on the chicken Jambalaya for the rest of us....... Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

I couldn't everrrrrr go vegan, or even vegetarian!
