There's some atheists here, and some theists here as well. Roger. I got that.

Religion aside, I've a question of memorials.

Personally, I've always been a fan of Dr. Leonard H. McCoy's statement of Captain Spock's death - "He's really not dead...So long as we remember 'im..."

Atheist or theist, I'd like to hear your takes on being remembered.

Do you want your name carved on the annals of history? Or would you prefer if the planet forgot you ever existed?

Personally, I would like my story (parts of it, anyhow) told by my descendants. I, also, have always been a fan of Bones' take on remembering a friend. When I go, I hope that I've left a mark in the hearts of my friends and family, and that they can look at my likeness and smile, remembering some happy time.

I do that very thing with my friends and family that have passed. Moreover, I share their stories. If I'm sitting with some friends or family who have a common connection with someone, I'll recount a humorous or touching story so everyone can share in that memory.

That, I think, is the only form of immortality that one can truly achieve.
