Well, the question's in the title.

Every time I step away from the computer for a minute or two I have to log back in when I return.

Try selecting the keep me logged in option, putz.

Yeah, the keep me logged feature is enabled. ( click the 'remember me' box when you sign in )

I have no desire to pump up my stats like some forums do.

If a member is here and posting then they will not time out.

If a member sits idle for awhile they are asked to reconfirm their identity.

I will add a few more minutes to the timer.

I have NO desire to pump up my stats like OTHER forums do.

This is a good thing. I hate logging into a site only to find out the 20 or so friends I thought were on actually aren't.

Indeed!!!

You would be surprised at how much bitching one hears about the auto log out though.

Yeah, I don't get that. If you just keep your sign-in info saved, it takes two extra seconds to log back in. Also, like nik said, it's nice to see who's ACTUALLY online and not the whole forum's list of members.
